Background
Stan Jakopin is a successful businessman, industry innovator and foremost authority on compounding and mixing technology. He has over 33 years of successful operating experience with the wide range of polymers as well as foods, pharmaceuticals and many other high-tech chemical materials.

Innovations
Jakopin joined Werner & Pfleiderer Corporation in 1969 where he was manager of process development. During this time, he made significant technology advances with twin-screw extrusion compounding systems and pioneered major developments in the field of polymers, foods, and chemical reactions. Jakopin subsequently joined Buss where as VP technology, he greatly expanded the market opportunities for the Buss kneader.

Honors
A member of the Society of Plastics Engineers (S.P.E.), Jakopin has served on the Extrusion Division’s board of directors. In 1994 he was elected a Fellow of S.P.E. in recognition of his many contributions to the plastics industry. He is also an active member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AICHE) and the American Chemical Society (ACS).

Industry Leader
Stan Jakopin founded Advanced Polymer Compounding (APC) in 1987, a company that quickly became a major entity in the polymer industry providing material, process development and specialized custom compounding services to major corporations worldwide. APC has experienced double digit growth since its inception.

In 1997 APC acquired DuPont’s Alcryn® thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) business and rapidly increased both domestic and international markets at a double digit annual growth rate. In 1999 Jakopin sold the APC company to a $1.5 billion public company—Ferro Corporation—headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, with Jakopin continuing as general manager until 2002.

Entrepreneur of the Year
Jakopin was a finalist for the Illinois High-Tech Award and was selected “Entrepreneur of the Year” by Inc. magazine, an honor given to individuals whose ingenuity, hard work and innovation have created successful and growing business ventures.
